Just ask Stan

10 March 2016

Just ask StanGranddad Stan Barnes suffered a nasty fall at his home after turning his lights off to save electricity just before Christmas.

The 82-year-old said: “I feel a little foolish. I switched the lights off as I am trying to save money on the electricity and tripped and fell. My finger was really painful and I had three cuts to my arm.”

Stan, who lives just a short distance from Sevenoaks Minor Injury Unit, knew just where to head for fast-track treatment.

The MIU in Hospital Road sees around 50 patients each day and can treat a range of minor injuries such as strains, sprains, cuts, burns and suspected broken bones as well as minor illness.

Stan was seen quickly by nurse Theresa Barron who cleaned and dressed his nasty cuts before arranging an x-ray of his hand which revealed a broken finger. He was given a follow-up appointment with the fracture clinic at Sevenoaks Hospital to check it was healing correctly.

Stan said: “It’s a great service, no hanging about. The staff are fantastic, they patched me up and I was in and out in no time. ”
