Contraception You are now able to start and renew oral contraception from some local pharmacies for free and without an appointment find your nearest one. If you’re over 16 and would like to get started on the contraceptive coil, implant, patch or ring check out your options here. Under 30s can get free contraception.

Conversations with the Sexual Health Central Access Team are confidential but are recorded for quality purposes. You must be aged 13 years or older to use this service.

Who we are

We are a consultant-led team of sexual health clinicians which offers high-quality, confidential sexual health services.

What we do

We provide integrated sexual health clinics across East Kent (including Swale) and Medway which offer screening and treatment for sexual transmitted infections; contraception including long acting reversible contraception; HIV treatment and care services; young people’s services and sexual health promotion. Our clinics provide appointments across East Kent (including Swale) and Medway.

We support pharmacies that are providing free emergency hormonal contraception to under 30 year olds in Kent and Medway and the delivery of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme in Medway which provides opportunistic screening to under 25 years old.

Our specialist trained therapists also deliver psychosexual therapy services across Kent.

Treatment was provided by a male clinician, when a female would have been preferred.

Clinicians within the sexual health service will make it clear when they are booking an appointment whether it is to see a male or female staff member, to ensure the patient has the opportunity to voice an objection.

An appointment was attended by patient for a coil change only to be informed they would have to wait a further year for it to be replaced.

Due to last minute updates to official clinical timescale guidelines for coil changes, the service contaced as many patients as possible to avoid unnecessary attendance of pre-booked appointments. Going forward, the new guidelines are being incorporated when receiving appointment requests for coil changes.

Patient raised a concern about receiving the incorrect dosage of medication in clinic and also those prescribed to take home with them.

Clinical staff received training about the dispensing of medication and packaging.

Patient felt that staff gave unsolicited advise without knowing the history of their situation. Patient also felt that communication about consent wasn’t clearer.
