National disruption of medication supplies to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

There is a national issue with the supply of some ADHD medications, including:

  • Methylphenidate
    • Equasym XL®
    • Concerta XL®
    • Xaggitin XL®
    • Xenidate XL®
  • Lisdexamfetamine
    • Elvanse®
    • Elvanse®
  • Guanfacine
    • Intuniv®
  • Atomoxetine.

The availability of these medications is changing frequently.

If you are taking any of these medications your prescriber will have up-to-date information on its availability and will let you know if your medication needs to be changed.

We are sorry that patients waiting to start ADHD medication are also experiencing delays in their appointments because of the ADHD medication shortage.

Please do not share your medication with anyone else.

If your needs are very complex, for example if you have mental health problems, or your ADHD symptoms cause you severe difficulties, please discuss this with your GP who may recommend a specialist consultant review.

A non-clinical helpline is available if you would like to talk to someone. Please call 01634 335095 option 3 then option 3, ADHD Medicine Shortages.
