What is social prescribing?
Looking after a child with additional needs or a long-term condition can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be worried about your child's wellbeing, behaviour, confidence, or opportunities to make friends and take part in activities.
Social prescribing helps connect children and families with local activities, groups and services that can support their health and wellbeing.
Many children with health or developmental needs find it harder to access clubs, sports and social activities. Social prescribing can help them find opportunities that are right for them.
Social prescribing can help you access resources to help your child:
- build confidence
- make friends
- develop social and communication skills
- learn new activities and hobbies
- improve listening and teamwork skills
- take part in local clubs and activities
- establish routines
- develop independence and life skills
- have fun.
