Who we are
The Children’s Learning Disability Nursing Team is a small specialist team of learning disability nurses who support children and young people with learning disabilities, and their families. Support is provided through one-to-one sessions and small group activities.
What we do
We provide specialist support for children and young people with learning disabilities, their families and the professionals involved in their care. Key areas of support include:
- sleep, continence and behaviour management for children and young people of all ages with learning disabilities
- post-diagnostic support for children, young people and families following a diagnosis of a learning disability
- advice and guidance on puberty, relationships and sexual development
- support with transition to adult services
- nursing support for children attending Dane Court, Bradfields and Rivermead schools, including health care plans, continence clinics, advice and support for families and school staff
- training, advice and support for public health nurses and mainstream schools to help meet the needs of children and young people with learning disabilities.
