A rapid path forward for apprentice Elizabeth
Rapid Transfer Service Administrator Elizabeth Gadd has fast‑tracked her apprenticeship months ahead of schedule, while strengthening the service she supports every day.
Elizabeth will complete her level three data technician apprenticeship this April, which she began just two months after joining the Rapid Transfer Service at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) from another team last January.
“I already had the software skills and some experience, but I really wanted to develop my knowledge of data analysis,” she said. “My manager completely supported me.”
As a service focused on helping people return home safely after a hospital stay, the team relies on clear, accurate data and Elizabeth plays a key part in bringing information together to support smooth and timely discharges.
“I gather and input data, minute our daily multidisciplinary meeting and keep the wards and the office updated with any changes. It all helps the team have the information they need to keep people moving safely through the service.”
Due to finish her apprenticeship early, Elizabeth is already putting her new knowledge into practice.
“I’ve done things I wouldn’t have done before, such as presenting data in front of the team,” she said. “Things that would have terrified me, I can now face head on.”
As someone with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Elizabeth said the support she’s had from her team, manager and peer networks have helped her realise her potential.
“This is the first time I’ve felt an employer really understands me,” she said. “Having adjustments and open conversations has meant so much. I’ve always wanted to progress and here, I finally saw a pathway.”
Even though her role is admin focused, Elizabeth said being so well connected in the team means she can clearly see how her work contributes to the positive difference made for patients and service users.
“When people come into contact with our service, it can be a really difficult time for them,” she said. “It’s really fulfilling when I see the number of people the team has supported. I can help bring that to life for my colleagues through the data, so they can see the incredible impact they have on our local communities.”
