Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust is committed to providing safe, compassionate care and to making sure all colleagues can work in a safe environment.
A small number of incidents each year put this at risk. Sadly, last year more than 15 per cent of colleagues experienced abuse, harassment or bullying from patients and more than five per cent experienced physical violence.
Our managing unacceptable behaviour policy sets clear expectations and confirms that harmful or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes violence, threats, harassment, discriminatory language, offensive sexual behaviour, intimidation, possession of weapons and substance misuse.
The policy outlines a structured response, including verbal warnings, behaviour agreements and yellow or red cards for repeated or serious incidents. Decisions are reviewed by a behaviour sanctions panel to make sure they are fair and consistent. Where care must continue, safe alternative arrangements will be made.
The policy also makes sure any behaviour linked to health conditions or capacity is considered with compassion and fairness.
By defining unacceptable behaviour and how it will be managed, we aim to maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
