What we do

We offer a comprehensive service for those who have a permanent disability or medical condition, which significantly impairs their ability to walk.

The service can provide you with:

  • a suitable wheelchair
  • training and information on its appropriate use
  • a pressure-relieving cushion for full-time wheelchair users when needed
  • adequate support to maintain posture where necessary
  • appropriate alterations and adjustments
  • maintenance, servicing or replacement of the above.

If your need is temporary, for example for a broken leg, please contact your local Red Cross. We are happy to provide contact details for you on request.

If you need an interpreter, or hearing support please contact the service as soon as possible so this can be arranged. Please be aware that the Wheelchair Service is not a drop-in clinic; the service operates an appointments-based service only.

Details of our approved repairer service will be given to you at the time of issue of your NHS wheelchair. All repairs to NHS wheelchairs are free through the approved repairer.

The Wheelchair Repair Service supports people by providing a mobile repair and maintenance service, which includes cleaning; re-conditioning; painting; welding; modifications; collections and delivery; portable appliance testing; mobile workshops to carry out repairs in people’s homes and electronic programming and diagnostic checks.

You need to be referred by a GP or healthcare professional to use this service

 

Kent and Medway Wheelchair Service

From 1 April, 2017, Kent and Medway Wheelchair service is provided by Millbrook Healthcare.

The service will run from two locations: Ashford and Gillingham.
