Who we are

We are all qualified nurses, with specialist training in public health. Our team consists of school nurses, school staff nurses, school nurse assistants and admin support.

What we do

We work closely with health visitors, community paediatricians, schools, colleges and other services from your local community in a range of locations, including mainstream schools, special schools and further education colleges. Our aim is to promote and protect health and wellbeing and prevent ill health.

We offer health assessments for all children and families to find out any health needs you may have, school-based and college-based support for individual pupils, health clinics, extra support for families needing more help where there is a health concern, self-referral, immunisations, health education and promotion and confidential advice for young people.

We carry out immunisations for children and young people throughout their school life, from reception year to year 10. We also provide advice, support and signposting on behaviour management, emotional health and wellbeing, puberty and growing up, healthy eating and lifestyle and sexual health.

How do you use our service?

Children, young people and families can access our service in a number of ways. Children must be between the ages of four and 18.

Young people can self-refer via any of our drop in clinics at secondary school. Please see the drop in schedule for more information. Parents are welcome to contact us using the details above.

Direct referrals are also welcome from any professional. Please contact us using the details above and we will send you a referral form.

School health improvement grants

More than 180 schools and colleges across East Sussex have made a special commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people, with a particular focus on childhood obesity. KCHFT’s School Health Service in East Sussex has created resources to help guide schools in making the most of their health improvement grant. This was developed as part of the pilot project with 10 East Sussex schools during 2015/16. The planning involved assisting schools to focus on key health improvement priorities for their students and to choose effective activities that will make an impact on the school or college’s health improvement goals.
