Your One You pharmacy is a great place to start getting back to a healthier you. Whether it's giving up smoking or losing some weight, we are here to help.
Thanet residents can now visit their local One You Pharmacy for one-to-one support. A team of trained advisers are available in 10 local pharmacies around the District to support you to lose weight or go smokefree. The scheme will be rolled out to the rest of East Kent over the next year.
There are no judgements and no gimmicks; just practical, personal support when you need it most – all free of charge!
The majority of smokers who ‘go it alone’ or choose ‘cold turkey’ will return to smoking within a year of quitting. Did you know you are four times more likely to stop smoking with the right support? Stopping smoking not only improves your health, but helps to protect those around you from the effects of second hand smoke – you will save money too!
Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and some cancers – weight loss can help reduce this risk. Guidelines recommend that you should try to lose weight gradually, about 1-2 lbs (approximately 0.5-1.0 kg) a week to achieve your overall weight loss goal.
To start your weight loss journey, you must be over 18 and have a BMI between 25-35. You can use NHS.uk's BMI calculator to check your BMI. (Some exclusions apply and will be checked when you register).

As an advisor I really enjoy getting to know each individual client – everyone has their own issues to overcome. I like to say that this is their time - 12 weeks of self-care & consideration for themselves. Clients get more confident which supports them in so many areas of their lives which is wonderful to see. People have such busy lifestyles, and caring for themselves often gets forgotten. I love seeing them move forward with healthy eating and seeing the benefits.

‘We try and be friendly with clients and get to know them, which makes them feel much more comfortable. The one you weight loss scheme is not necessarily a diet it’s a lifestyle choice"
Jenny, Pharmacy Advisor, Paydens at Broadstairs has written a poem for weightloss,
Lose weight feel great,
Have your food on a smaller plate
Watch the sizes NO surprises
Clothes will then jump down in sizes
Don’t be rude refuse the food
Lose the weight feel great
Smaller plate lose weight
