This course strives to raise awareness of the importance of sexuality, sexual expression and the diversity of needs for those who have a learning disability. The course introduces the topic of sexuality and sex education in relation to personalised care planning and support of those who have learning disability.
The course also covers basic sexual health information – contraception and sexually transmitted infection.
It has been developed for all levels of staff, (including senior managers), who are working with people with learning disabilities.
To introduce the topic of sexuality and sexual expression for those who work with people who have a learning disability.
This course will enable participants to:
- explore their own values relating to the sexual health of their clients
- be aware of key documents, resources and best practice
- explore the barriers in supporting sexual health for people with a learning disability
- understand the law; issues relating to consent (Mental Capacity Act) and vulnerability.
