This course was developed in conjunction with Kent County Council’s (KCC) Fostering and Adoption and the NHS Looked After Children’s (LAC) nursing team. It is delivered in partnership with the LAC nursing team.
The course is designed for those who work with looked after children and young people either as foster carers, managers or social workers.
To support carers to understand the importance of their role in discussing relationships and sex education with young people, and to increase their knowledge of basic sexual health information.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore:
- the carers’ role in contributing to the health and wellbeing of looked after children in relation to sex and relationships
- issues relating to consent, confidentiality and communication relevant to looked after children and sex
- issues around knowledge, skills and attitudes when talking to young people about sex.
