I now visit the gym regularly

After undergoing two spinal operations in 2008 and 2012, 50-year-old Andrena Hunter from Ashford was starting to feel  unhealthy and fed up. “I was just putting on more and more weight each time I had the operation,” said Andrena, “I felt lethargic and demotivated. I went to see my GP who said they could put me in touch with someone who could help me. At first, I was sceptical, I thought – well what can this person tell me that I don’t already know? But she did help me.”

Andrena’s GP referred her to the Health Trainer service and she made an appointment to see Ashford Health Trainer Janet.  “Andrena was really struggling with her weight and it was getting her down. “ said Janet. “I referred her to the Stour Centre in Ashford where she received a personalised training plan that took account of her disability. We also did a healthy eating plan which looked at portion sizes and things like food labelling.”

Andrena now visits the gym regularly and has lost two kilos. She’s confident that this is the start of a new lifestyle. “I can honestly say that if I hadn’t been referred to Janet, I wouldn’t be in the place I am now.”
