As an NHS community dental service, we provide prison dental care to a number of prisons and institutions. These include: HMP Swaleside and HMP Standford Hill, both on the Isle of Sheppey, as well as HMP Maidstone.
We also deliver outreach mobile dental services to a secure mental health unit and a secure youth offender training centre.
The service is for all prisoners/detainees and follows comprehensive NHS regulations. In addition to routine dental care we offer oral health promotion and sign-post prisoners/detainees to other services that may be of use to them, such as stop smoking.
Dental staff who work in the prisons are security checked and must have additional training on prison security and working inside a prison.
